A Gift that Lasts Beyond A Lifetime
Planned Giving Spotlight: Craig & Carole Paterson
As we reflect on the close of 2025 and look ahead to the years beyond, Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity is focused not only on the homes we are building today, but on the long-term sustainability of our mission. With the affordable housing crisis continuing to deepen and community needs growing, long-range planning has never been more important. One meaningful way supporters can help ensure Habitat’s impact continues for generations is through planned giving, also known as legacy giving.
Craig and Carole Paterson, long-time donors and devoted supporters of Solano-Napa Habitat, exemplify the heart behind this kind of giving. Craig served on Habitat’s board for more than a decade, including 13 years as treasurer, while Carole has volunteered extensively at the ReStore, where she brings her creative eye to merchandising and displays. Both came to Habitat through a deep commitment to community development and service, shaped by careers in ministry, youth development, and public service. “Habitat has always stood out to us because it creates stability for families,” Carole shared. “There’s something powerful about helping people have a safe place to call home.”
Several years ago, as Craig and Carole were updating their estate plans, they made the decision to include Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity in their will. For them, the choice was simple. “We see this as a way to pay it forward,” Craig explained. “It’s about sending something valuable into the future and knowing that long after we’re gone, families will still be able to experience the security and dignity that comes with homeownership.”
As we plan for 2026 and beyond, legacy gifts like the Patersons’ help ensure Habitat can continue to grow its reserves, respond to future challenges, and serve more families in need. Planned giving is not just about end-of-life planning, it’s about making a lasting statement of hope and belief in the future. We are deeply grateful to Craig and Carole Paterson for their generosity and foresight, and for a legacy that will continue building homes and changing lives for years to come.
