Habitat + Sustainability

 In news_events

Below are three important ways Habitat is taking part in sustainability, not just on Earth Day but through our ongoing projects.

1) Our ReStore Diverts Waste! Our ReStore in Fairfield, CA encourages up-cycling of furniture, appliances, and home goods, and has diverted more than 620 tons of materials from local landfills in the past year alone. You can take part by donating your new or gently used items, or by shopping for your next home improvement project at our ReStore. Learn more at: solanonapahabitat.org/restore

2) Our Homes are Solar Powered! Since 2008, every Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity ground-up build utilizes a solar electricity system. Pictured above is a home we built in Vallejo, CA with a rooftop photovoltaic system. At Habitat, we believe home affordability and sustainable building go hand in hand. 3) We Recycle Vehicles! Every day, Habitat’s Cars for Homes program generates funding from the sale of used cars, trucks, and other vehicles. Those funds are distributed to local affiliates like ours to help build affordable homes. Recycling cars keeps a huge amount of steel out of landfills – enough to build nearly 45,000 steel-framed homes every year. The energy saved each year is enough to power approximately 18 million homes! Click here to learn more and donate your vehicle – it’s fast, easy, and you may qualify for a tax deduction.

We only have one planet to call home, so let’s do our part to take care of it. Thanks to supporters like you, we can keep sustainability at the forefront of our projects and practices, all while building affordable homes in our community. Celebrate and preserve our earth today and every day, for future generations.
