When you volunteer at a construction site:
- Bring water–though beverages are available at the build site.
- Wear work clothes, including thick-soled, closed-toe shoes or boots, long sleeved shirts, and long pants (make sure you wear something you don’t mind getting muddy, or spotted with paint).
- Bring a towel, an extra sweatshirt or jacket and something to protect your car seat from wet and dirt. Although it rarely rains, please come prepared.
- Bring and wear sunscreen
- Bring two completed forms with you: (1.) An Adult Release and Waiver of Liability form (or Minor Release and Waiver of Liability form for 16 and 17-year-old volunteers) and (2.) An Emergency Contact Information form. These forms will be forwarded to you via email once you are put on a volunteer crew (and blank forms are available at our construction sites). You need not complete them for sites you’ve worked on before (we need one copy per site per year).
No tools are required. But, if you have them you can bring along a nail apron, safety glasses, tool belt with a hammer, tape measure, utility/pocket knife. Make sure all your tools are labeled with your name.
The typical work-day schedule:
- Registration: 7:50 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
- Site Safety Presentation: 8:00 a.m. (attendance is mandatory)
- Quitting Time: 2:30 p.m.
