A Day of Service at the Yountville Veterans Home

 In news_events, Volunteer

On Wednesday, May 24th, Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity (SNHfH) partnered with the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) and The Home Depot Foundation for a workday at The Veterans Home in Yountville. Projects included building shade structures, planters, accessible picnic tables, and landscape enhancements, all to provide ADA Accessible recreational areas for the veterans and visitors of the facility.

Since March, SNHfH has been working to prepare kits for these projects, and on the day of the event, 60 supporters from the organization served as “Captains” and provided project leadership of the 300 volunteers. Donned in grey shirts and orange caps, the SNHfH supporters consisted of construction staff, trained volunteers, and many project leaders from the Travis Air Base – including both men and women from the Navy and the Air Force.

“We had a wonderful time at the Yountville Veterans Home and we are thankful for our dedicated, hard-working crews that made it all possible,” said Diane Agnone, Executive Director of SNHfH. “These projects helped enhance the 500+ acre grounds and will hopefully encourage the veterans to enjoy the outdoors. We are happy to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for us.”

“This is what can happen when people come together with a common goal; and there is no better goal than helping our veterans,” said Mark Baides, Construction Manager for SNHfH who served as the Project Leader at the workday.
