A Home for Mother’s Day
“What does it mean to be in your first home for Mother’s Day?”
“Being in our new Habitat home this Mother’s Day feels like a breath of fresh air. I feel a sense of a renewed or restored perspective. I am grateful that I am able to sit with my loved ones and celebrate in a safe and secure environment. If I am completely honest, Mother’s Day will be a bit different for me this year. Instead of celebrating 3 generations of mothers, my family will celebrate 2. We lost my nana late last year, but she played a major part of our Habitat home build process. Jelani and I loved visiting my nana and sharing updates on the home build and what portion of the home we were working on. She loved watching the videos I shared and looking at the progression pictures, I know she was proud. She was not able to witness us move in and celebrate that monumental moment with us, but I know she was thankful that her granddaughter and great grandson were going to be homeowners. This year I want to honor her legacy and love. She was resilient, she raised my mother to be resilient, and now I am the same way. Sticking things out to completion has benefited her children for multiple generations, and it won’t stop here. Happy Mother’s Day Nana Holmes! We love you.”
