Board Volunteer Build Day

 In news_events

In February, a group of hard-working board members joined together for a Board Volunteer Build Day at the Woolner site. A much needed break in the rain allowed the board an opportunity to pause from decision making and committee meetings to hammer nails. As a light drizzle turned to sunshine, a full rainbow appeared as a sign of hope and new beginnings.

The board of directors joined a full crew of construction staff and volunteers for a morning safety briefing and body stretches to ensure all were in tip-top shape for the day’s work. Board members were teamed up with regular construction volunteers as work was assigned.

“It was an incredible honor and privilege to learn from our regular Woolner volunteers who consistently and selflessly give their time, experience, talents, skills, and especially their hearts to make a difference in someone else’s life,” said Janae Davis, Board member.

As the group of volunteers eagerly set out installing siding on the three Woolner homes, contractors were hard at work installing the HVAC systems and roofs.

“It is amazing to see the remarkable progress on these homes”, said Pam Posehn, Board president. “Several years of hard work to make homeownership possible for three well-deserving families is becoming a reality!”

After a Board sponsored barbeque lunch, the group was pleasantly surprised by a visit from one of the future homeowners. She was astonished to see the progress made since the last time she came out to work on her home as part of her sweat equity requirement. She peered out the window of her new home with gratitude and hope for her future as a homeowner.

“Many thanks to everyone who was able to participate, I hope you enjoyed yourselves and learned something new,” said Andrew Killeen, Executive Director of SNHfH.

Through volunteer labor (regardless of skills and abilities) and tax-deductible donations, community members are working together to empower families by providing a safe place to live and thrive.
