Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity partnered with the American Legion Post 178, Berkeley Food & Housing Project, Solano County, and the City of Rio Vista to build a permanent home for veterans. Solano County is home to many military service members, and these dedicated warriors have committed themselves to keeping our country safe and secure.
The residence is a 6-bedroom, 3-bath home in Rio Vista providing a permanent place for screened veterans to ensure their compatibility for a group living situation. Many veterans struggle when living in isolation, but instead thrive on the companionship of housemates, and shared housing is a viable option for veterans on an extremely low income. Built next to the American Legion building, the home offers a quiet and calm environment, allowing the residents to live healthy and productive lives. This project will also serve as a prototype for potential builds elsewhere in the county.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this project took place on August 2, 2019, and a virtual dedication ceremony took place on January 28th, 2021.
