Sponsor Spotlight: Valero

 In news_events

Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity is proud to shine the spotlight on one of our most committed sponsors, Valero Benicia Refinery. Their recent volunteer efforts on April 27th are just the latest example of Valero’s dedication to making a tangible difference in our community. A team of seven Valero employees generously dedicated their time to work on our Woolner Avenue 3-home build in Fairfield (pictured), with three volunteers teaming up to apply the first coat of primer in house 1, while others installed interior door trims in houses 2 and 3. This hands-on participation underscores the deep engagement and skill that Valero brings to our projects.

Since 2013, Valero has been a significant supporter of Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity, contributing over $200,000. These funds have supported six builds including Habitat Corner, Missouri/Taylor, and Woolner Ave in Fairfield, Tregaskis in Vallejo, and Veterans Residences in Dixon and Rio Vista. Their support extends beyond financial contributions; Valero employees regularly volunteer on these builds, bringing their expertise in engineering, welding, and construction to the forefront of community development.

In addition to funding builds, Valero has also supported our ReStore, helping cover the costs of two 45ft shipping containers used for extra on-site storage, as well as a new phone system. This contribution is essential in enhancing our operational capabilities and extending our reach to more families in need.

“Primarily, our refinery workers live in Solano County because it’s affordable to live here. When they see a project like Habitat emerging in their neighborhood, it intrigues them,” said Paul Adler, Valero’s Director of Community Relations and Government Affairs. “Some of our workers are also Veterans. Being close to home and these shared values are important aspects of our commitment and support of Habitat. The similarities and synergy are key elements.”

Reflecting on the benefits of volunteering, Adler also noted, “It’s both fun and fitting that Habitat allows our team to use skills that the refinery workers value,” highlighting the personal growth and satisfaction gained from their involvement.

Valero Benicia Refinery’s enduring partnership with Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity is more than just a commitment to building homes; it’s about building community, nurturing hope, and creating opportunities for better lives.
