Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity is partnering with the American Legion Post 178, Berkeley Food & Housing Project, Solano County, and the City of Rio Vista to build a permanent home for veterans. Solano County is home to many military service members. These dedicated warriors have committed themselves to keeping our country safe and secure.
The planned residence is a 6-bedroom, 3-bath home in Rio Vista for local veterans. The project will provide a permanent home for screened veterans to ensure their compatibility for a group living situation. Many veterans struggle when living in isolation, but instead thrive on the companionship of housemates, and shared housing is a viable option for veterans on an extremely low income. Built next to the American Legion building, the home will provide a quiet and calm environment, allowing the residents to live healthy and productive lives. This project will also serve as a prototype for potential similar builds elsewhere in the county.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this project took place on August 2, 2019, and we poured the foundation and raised the first walls in February 2020. Fundraising for this Veterans Residence is underway – click here to contribute!
